Two buildings, two distinct characters, joined by a narrow street.
To the left, a dark building with curved balconies leans towards the viewer. Across the road, a concrete tower climbs skywards, its facade weathered and marked, with windows set deep into the walls. A lone lamppost arches above the street, while a few bare branches trace the top of the scene.
The atmosphere is moody and urban, with much of the image in shadow. Light catches only the edges of the curves and the tower’s uppermost point. It has the feel of dawn in a city yet to stir.
This kind of street scene gives our brutalism poster range a sense of everyday life, rather than a staged look. It works well in a hallway, office or bedroom with dark walls, including in a classic Kiwi home. The poster is available in several sizes.
Whether you admire it or not, brutalism has left its mark on city streets around the world. Read our feature on brutalist architecture to find out why it remains part of the urban landscape.
