A cylinder, a few boxy forms and a moody sky. Brutalism makes a feature of simple shapes.
A round tower with ribbed sides rises behind the scene, while large rectangular forms project in front at varying heights. Some are lined with windows; others are solid walls of exposed concrete. Sideways sunlight lights one half of each block, leaving the other in deep shadow. Clouds drift across the background.
It almost looks like a full-scale model built from wooden blocks. There’s a playful quality here, revealing another side of architecture often thought of as overly serious.
This print works well in a contemporary lounge, home office or teenager’s bedroom. Its portrait format and strong contrast stand out across the room, whether in a Wellington flat or a family home elsewhere in Aotearoa. Available in several sizes.
Forms like these were common on university campuses and around civic buildings. You’ll find related designs in our brutalism poster collection. To learn more about these buildings, explore how brutalism influenced universities, theatres and town halls.
