A single pear tree fills the upper half of the canvas. Its leaves form a mosaic of small brushstrokes in green, blue and yellow, with warm touches in the fruit. Below, more trees stretch across the orchard, while a band of fresh grass runs along the bottom.
Klimt painted this scene in 1903 and revisited it in 1918, the year he died. Today, it belongs to Harvard University and is held at the Busch-Reisinger Museum. As in his other orchard paintings, there are no people or narrative, only a tree in full summer, rendered with care.
Fruit trees feel right at home in a kitchen or dining room, and this one is no different. It also suits a light-filled living room, whether in a city flat or a home by the coast. Choose from several poster sizes, with framing available as an option.
