This poster turns something as ordinary as footprints into a quiet narrative. A trail of steps loops across the dunes in unexpected curves, like a dance traced into the sand. Light picks out the ripples underfoot, giving each mark its own sense of rhythm.
Fans of Frank Herbert’s Dune may recognise a hint of the legendary “sandwalk”, an odd, irregular dance for crossing the desert without alerting the giant creatures below. The print’s footsteps call to mind this ritual of survival, where necessity meets artistry. There’s a lovely sense of presence and absence: someone has passed through, yet the desert holds on to most of its secrets. In a Wellington home or a bach by the coast, this artwork brings gentle movement to a room and recalls one of science fiction’s most memorable gestures.
