Across a wide expanse of lagoon, the Doge's Palace appears small and pale, floating in a haze of pink, gold and lilac. The Campanile and the domes of San Marco are just ghostly shapes behind it, and the water in front glows in soft blue and violet.
From the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, opposite St Mark's Square, Monet painted the palace several times in 1908, at different hours. He was sixty-eight, and Venice gave him the same kind of misty light he had loved in London.
Dreamy and luminous, it is a lovely piece for a bedroom, a living room or an entrance. Our Claude Monet posters include a closer view of the palace and other Venetian palazzi. Our article on Monet tells the story of his only journey to Venice. Several sizes.
