A narrow sunken path runs down between two steep banks covered in grass and wildflowers. On the right, a dark mass of bushes; at the end of the path, the sea opens up in blue and lilac under a hazy sky. It is a view that invites us to walk down to the beach.
La Cavée is the name of a hollow lane leading to the sea at Pourville, where Monet spent the summer of 1882. The V-shaped composition, with the sea framed between the slopes, shows how much he had learned from Japanese prints. The painting is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Inviting and summery, it suits an entrance, a hallway or a bedroom. Our Claude Monet posters include his many views of Pourville. Read our article on Monet to follow his summer on the coast. Several sizes, with or without a frame.
