On a grey day, the bridge is darker and more solid, its heavy arches in blue-grey. Puffs of white and pink smoke rise from the traffic crossing it, barges float on the brownish Thames in front, and the factory chimneys stand clearly on the far bank.
This is one of the most detailed views of the series, showing the real, working London of 1900: smoke, traffic and boats. It belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, which owns several of Monet's views of the Thames.
Urban and textured, it suits an office, a loft or a hallway. Pair it with a sunset version from our Monet prints and posters for a striking contrast. Our article on Claude Monet tells the story of his London series. Several sizes.
