A boy stands at the far end of a dim corridor, hands by his sides, framed by curtains and two tall blue-and-white planters. Behind him a window glows white, and the polished parquet floor carries its reflection all the way to us. Everything else is plants: palms and greenery spilling in from both sides, almost swallowing the room.
The boy is Jean, the painter's elder son, and this is the family house at Argenteuil in 1875. Monet rarely painted indoors, and you can feel him treating the apartment like a landscape, with the light coming from deep inside and the shadows full of blue.
Its narrow, upright format suits a hallway or the space beside a door. More interiors and garden scenes are waiting in our Monet prints and posters, and our story of Claude Monet's life tells how the Argenteuil years shaped him. Available in several sizes, framed or unframed.
