A dark blue vase stands on a polished wooden table, overflowing with pink and white chrysanthemums. The flowers spread wide, almost touching the edges, and the wall behind is painted in pale blue and lilac, like a cloudy sky.
Monet painted this bouquet in 1882, a year when flower pieces helped him pay the bills. He would later grow chrysanthemums in his garden at Giverny and paint them again in a much more decorative style. The canvas is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Fresh and romantic, it suits a bedroom, an entrance or a dining room. Our Monet art prints include sunflowers, chrysanthemums and other flowers from his gardens. To see how flowers slowly became the centre of his life, read our Claude Monet article. Several sizes, framed or not.
