Tall nets hang from poles planted among the rocks, their fine mesh drawn in grey threads against the sky. The tide is coming in, white foam swirls around dark boulders, and behind it all a pale sun shines through a milky haze.
At Pourville in 1882, fishermen stretched these nets across the beach and collected the catch at low tide. Monet was fascinated by them: transparent, light, almost invisible, they let him paint the air itself. The canvas belongs to the Kunstmuseum in The Hague.
A grey, airy seascape that suits a bathroom, a study or a minimal living room. Our Monet prints and posters include many other views of the same beach and cliffs. To follow him along the coast that summer, read our Claude Monet article. Several sizes, framed or unframed.
