Two stacks stand in a snow-covered field, one large and one small, their tops still holding a little snow. The low winter sun lights them from the side, and their shadows stretch out in long blue shapes across the white ground. The background is a soft band of pink and lilac.
That winter Monet worked fast: the light changed every few minutes, and he had his stepdaughter Blanche Hoschedé bring the canvases to the field in a wheelbarrow. When the series was shown in Paris in May 1891, it sold almost at once.
Bright and quiet, it brings winter calm to a bedroom or a white living room. Pair it with another stack from our Claude Monet posters for a duo of seasons, and read our article on Monet's series. Several sizes.
