Here the stacks are seen closer, darker, two heavy cones of brown and violet sitting in the snow. The sky behind them is a pale wash of yellow and peach, the field glows white, and the shadow of the big stack spreads in front of it in blue.
Monet painted around twenty-five grainstacks between the summer of 1890 and the spring of 1891, in the field just west of his house at Giverny. In this snowy version, the contrast between the dark mass of hay and the light around it is stronger than ever.
Structured and calm, it works in a study, a living room or above a bed. Choose it alone or alongside another season from our Monet prints and posters. Our article on Claude Monet explains how this series changed his career. Several sizes, framed or unframed.
