Westminster rises like a blue silhouette cut out of fog. The Victoria Tower stands on the left, the spires and pinnacles follow along the river, and the whole building is reflected in the Thames as a darker blue shadow. Above, the sky is full of pinks and lilacs where the sun tries to get through.
Monet painted the Houses of Parliament from a terrace at St Thomas' Hospital, on the opposite bank, during his London stays between 1899 and 1901. He kept a stack of canvases and switched as the light changed, sometimes every few minutes.
Blue and mysterious, it is a striking piece for a living room or an office. Our Monet prints and posters include several other versions of the Parliament, at sunset and in the fog. Our article on Monet's London winters tells the full story. Several sizes, framed or unframed.
