A little boy in a white smock and a small brown hat sits proudly on a toy horse mounted on three big wheels. His feet are on the pedals, his hands on the reins, and he looks at us very seriously. Behind him, the garden is a dark wall of green with a few red flowers.
Jean was Monet's first son, born in 1867. Here he is about five, in the garden of the family house at Argenteuil. His father painted him many times as he grew up, but rarely with so much tenderness and humour. The canvas is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Charming and warm, it is perfect for a child's room, a family living room or an entrance. Our Claude Monet prints and posters include other portraits of Jean and his mother Camille. Our article on Monet tells the story of the family. Several sizes, framed or not.
