A white canvas, or almost. Look a little longer and a row of trees appears through the fog, then a few round bushes, all drawn in the palest blue, yellow and pink. The ground is a misty field, the sky the same mist seen higher up.
Monet painted this morning near Giverny in 1888. It is one of his most daring canvases: the fog has erased almost everything, and only the light remains. The painting is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
Very soft and minimal, it suits a white bedroom, a bathroom or a calm office. It is among the most delicate works in our Claude Monet collection. Our article on Monet explains his lifelong fascination with fog. Several sizes, framed or not.
