A path of red earth winds under old olive trees, their trunks twisting in every direction. The leaves overhead form a silvery green roof, pierced by spots of sunlight that land on the ground in warm patches of orange and pink.
In 1884 Monet spent three months in Bordighera, on the Italian Riviera. Francesco Moreno, a wealthy olive oil merchant, let him paint in his famous garden, and Monet complained in his letters about the difficulty of these knotted, grey-green trees. The result is one of his most rhythmic canvases, almost a tapestry.
Hang it in a living room, a dining room or a sunny entrance for a touch of the Mediterranean. More views from Bordighera are among our Monet art prints. Read our Claude Monet article for his travels in the south. Several sizes, framed or not.
