The Gothic façade of a Venetian palace fills the whole width of the canvas, its pointed arches and balconies dissolved in blue-green light. A gondola slides along the water line, and the Grand Canal below is a sheet of turquoise and teal ripples.
Monet painted the Palazzo da Mula from a boat on the Grand Canal, during his only stay in Venice in 1908. He cropped the building so tightly that it becomes a pattern of windows and reflections, almost an abstract surface. The canvas is now at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
Cool and refined, it brings a touch of Venice to a living room, a study or a bathroom. Our Monet prints and posters include his other Venetian views, from the Palazzo Dario to the Doge's Palace. Our article on Claude Monet tells the story of this late journey. Several sizes.
