Tall palms spread their fronds across the middle of the picture, dark green and gold, rising from a garden of lush vegetation. Behind them, the mountains of Liguria glow pink and lilac under a pale sky, as if the snow on their peaks had caught the sun.
When Monet arrived in Bordighera in 1884, he was struck by the exotic plants of the gardens: palms, lemon trees, olive trees, agaves. He wrote that it would take a palette of diamonds and jewels to paint them. This canvas is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Exotic and sunny, it suits a living room, a bathroom or a winter garden. Our Claude Monet posters gather several views of Bordighera from that winter. Our article on Monet tells how the south changed his colours. Several sizes, framed or not.
