A row of tall poplars rises along the river, their thin trunks stretching right out of the top of the picture. The leaves have turned orange and gold, and the whole row is mirrored in the water below, where the colours break into wavering stripes.
In 1891 Monet discovered a line of poplars on the Epte, a short way from Giverny, and painted them from his boat. When he learned that the village was about to sell them for timber, he paid the merchant to wait until he had finished. The series counts more than twenty canvases.
Warm and slender, this autumn version is perfect for a hallway, a bedroom or a narrow wall. Our Monet art prints include the same poplars at twilight, in the wind and in the sun. Our article on Monet's series tells the story. Several sizes.
