A flat field of red poppies stretches across the lower half of the canvas, and a single tall poplar rises from it like an exclamation mark. Other trees are scattered behind, and the blue hills of the Seine valley close the horizon under a deep blue sky.
In the summer of 1890, just before starting his grainstacks, Monet painted a small series of poppy fields near his house at Giverny. The composition is very simple, in horizontal bands, and the colours are strong: red, green and blue.
Bold and summery, it suits a living room, an office or a country kitchen. Our Monet posters include poppy fields from Argenteuil and Giverny, painted twenty years apart. Our article on Monet tells what happened between them. Several sizes.
