A crowded quay runs diagonally across the picture, full of tiny figures strolling in the sun. On the water, steamships puff black smoke, sailboats with red sails glide past, and the tall houses of the harbour front line the left side in pale yellow and grey.
Monet grew up in Le Havre, and he came back to paint its harbour several times. In 1872 he painted Impression, Sunrise there; this busy daytime view of 1874 shows the other side of the port, full of activity. The canvas is wide, so we print it with a light border that keeps the whole quay.
Lively and nautical, it suits an office, a hallway or a living room. Our Monet art prints include other harbour and sea views from Normandy. Our article on Monet's life starts in Le Havre. Several sizes.
