The same Norwegian village seen in clearer weather: the snow on the roofs is bright white, the walls of the houses red, blue and pink, and the mountain behind is a dark mass of fir trees. Thin birches with violet branches frame the scene on the right.
Monet spent about two months in Norway in early 1895, working outside in temperatures well below zero, his beard frozen, as he wrote to his family. He painted Sandvika several times, varying the light and the density of the snowfall.
Crisp and colourful, it is a beautiful winter print for a living room, an entrance or a mountain home. Hang it next to the snowier version from our Claude Monet posters. For his trip to Scandinavia, read our article on Monet. Several sizes, framed or not.
