On the far bank of the Seine, the Gothic church of Vernon rises above a row of houses, all dissolved in a white morning glare. Its reflection hangs upside down in the river, as solid as the real thing. Pale pinks, creams and lilacs are the only colours.
Vernon is the town next to Giverny, and in 1894, the same year as his Rouen Cathedral series, Monet painted its church several times through the mist and sun of the early hours. Here the sun is winning: shapes melt, and only the tall nave and its double in the water remain.
Luminous and very soft, it suits a white bedroom or a light living room. You will find the Rouen cathedrals of the same year among our Claude Monet prints and posters. Read our article on Monet's series to see how he worked. Available in several sizes.
