Seen through a glass door framed by white curtains, a woman in a dark coat and a bright red hood walks past in the snow. She turns her head towards the window for a moment, and that glance, with the red of her scarf, is the whole picture. The room inside is grey and dim.
The woman is Camille, Monet's wife. He painted her through the French window of their house, probably at Argenteuil, and kept the picture all his life, even after her death. It now belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Intimate and striking, it suits a bedroom, a hallway or a reading corner. Our Claude Monet prints and posters include several other portraits of Camille. Our article on Monet tells their story. Several sizes, framed or not.
