A wide stretch of river runs across the picture, its surface rippling in silver and blue. Small islands of round bushes float in the middle, a few reeds poke out in the foreground, and on the far bank, the white houses of Lavacourt line up under poplars and a sky full of light clouds.
In 1880 Monet chose a view of Lavacourt as one of his two submissions to the official Salon in Paris, a sign that he wanted to reconnect with a wider public after years of poverty. He painted the village several times from the bank at Vétheuil.
Fresh and spacious, it suits a living room, a bedroom or an office. Our Monet art prints include Lavacourt in autumn and at sunset. For the story of that year, read our article on Claude Monet. Several sizes, with or without a frame.
