The Sofa (ca. 1894–1896) by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Poster

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec turns a quiet scene into a moment of theatre. Two women relax on a green sofa, drawn with quick, assured strokes and lifted by chalky whites. Ochre, moss and pale lilac give the palette a warm, lived-in feel, while the textured ground keeps the scene grounded. The horizontal format gives the room a more relaxed feel. Diagonal legs draw your eye, the lavender skirt contrasts with inky stockings, and soft highlights connect the figures to their surroundings. This balance of line and colour pairs well with natural timber, linen and stone, and sits comfortably in a New Zealand home. Hang it low above a sofa, group it with Belle Époque pieces, or display it on its own for a quiet accent. Available in several sizes, this poster can be scaled to suit your wall.
