A small boat with a cabin floats on a calm, green river, its door open. Inside, a man in a dark hat sits at work, and the white cabin and its reflection make a bright vertical shape in the middle of the picture. Willows and bushes close the view on both sides.
Monet bought this boat at Argenteuil and fitted it with a little cabin so he could paint directly on the river. His friend Édouard Manet painted him at work on it in 1874. Monet used it for years, and the floating studio became a symbol of open-air painting.
Quiet and charming, it suits a study, an office or a creative workspace. Our Monet prints and posters include many views of the Seine painted from this very boat. Our article on Claude Monet tells the story of the Argenteuil years. Several sizes, framed or not.
