A long view of the pond where the reflection of a weeping willow spreads like a golden-brown cloud across the left side. A patch of blue sky shines through it, and on the right, groups of lily pads with pink flowers float on the darker water.
Monet painted this panoramic study in his large studio at Giverny around 1917 to 1919, while working on his great decorative panels. The warm ochres and the loose, broad brushwork are typical of these years. The canvas is very wide, so we print it with a light border that keeps the full composition.
