A row of poplars bends under the wind, their tall, thin trunks swaying against a sky of grey and lilac clouds. The leaves are tossed sideways, the grass at the bottom flattened, and the whole picture seems to move.
Of all the poplars painted on the banks of the Epte in 1891, this is the most dynamic. Monet caught the moment when a gust shook the trees, with quick, slanting strokes. The canvas belongs to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Lively and graphic, its tall format suits a hallway, a bedroom or an office. Our Claude Monet posters include the same poplars in sun, at twilight and in pink light. Our article on Monet's series tells the story of these trees. Several sizes, framed or not.
